Dr. Mohamed Moustafa Mahmoud (Dr. 3M), as he is known to his wide network of business connections, is MILE’s Executive Director. He was a professor of Management Sciences and taught at graduate and undergraduate levels in USA, Canada, Egypt and Kuwait. Dr. 3M has 3 Masters degrees in addition to a Ph.D. from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and has several publications in the areas of Neural Networks, Service Operations Management and has published various textbooks in Operations, Inventory Management, Management Science and Business Statistics for University of Alberta, Canada, 1994. He is also the advisor to the president of Arab Engineering and Management Consultants (Team International).

He was recently appointed as the Chief Advisor of the newly-establisehd Saudi National Center for Performance Measurement of Public Entities.

Prior to this position he was the senior VP for OD at Savola Group; senior consultant and advisor to Saudi Germen Hospitals Group and International Medical Centre, Advisor to the Mayor of Jeddah, Minister of Labor, Minister of Health and an Advisor to the Minister of Economy and Planning, KSA.

Professor. Al-Assaf is a physician and a consultant in quality management and leadership with strong quantitative and analytical skills. He provides advice on healthcare quality and systems strengthening in the U.S. and other countries worldwide. Dr. Al-Assaf also assists health organizations achieve national and international accreditation, designs performance improvement projects, and delivers training in leadership and tools and methods of data management to healthcare organizations.

Besides his academic experiences (Professor Emeritus and Former Associate Dean at University of Oklahoma 26plus years), Dr. Al-Assaf provides advice and consultations to health care facilities worldwide. His consultation extends to such organizations as U.S. Air Force, U.S. Veterans Affairs Health System, US Agency for International Development (USAID), Hospital Corporation of America, Selected Professional Associations, World Bank, UNDP, UNICEF, World Health Organization (WHO), and the American Association for World Health. Internationally, he has provided advice on healthcare quality and preventive medicine to a number of organizations in countries in the Mid-East, North America, North Africa, South East and Central Asia and Eastern Europe. As a researcher and public speaker, Dr. Al-Assaf has published 13 books, eight book chapters, and over 170 scientific and professional publications in national and international journals, and presented lectures, seminars, or workshops to over 350 groups and organizations both nationally and internationally.

In 2011, Dr. Sorensen joined Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc. and served as its President and CEO until 2015. Prior to that, he was a Professor at Harvard Medical School and a Neuroradiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he worked from 1995 to 2011. He held additional faculty appointments at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Oxford University.

Dr. Sorensen holds a B.S. in Biology from the California Institute of Technology, an M.S. in Computer Science from Brigham Young University, and a Medical Degree from Harvard Medical School and MIT. He was born in Salt Lake City, USA, in 1962.

A sought-after speaker on both scientific and market-focused topics, he is also active in national and global policy making, including serving as a member of the Scientific Council of the National Institutes of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, as past Chairman of the Board of the Medical Imaging Technology Alliance, and on the Executive Committee of National Electrical Manufacturers Association. He currently also serves on the Board of Directors of Research!America.
